Raymond Accepts WWCCA Project of the Year Awards

Posted January 19, 2017

On January 17, 2017, the Western Wall and Ceiling Contractors Association (WWCCA) held their annual Walter F. Pruter Project of the Year awards, where they announced the 2016 winning contractors and projects. The Raymond Group proudly accepted an award for the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina Grand Ballroom in the category of Interior Commercial, the Great Wolf Lodge in the category of Exterior Commercial, and the Chapman Musco Center for the Arts in the Interior Schools category.

Projects were limited to the Southern California region and judged by a panel of local architects, the WWCCA, and TSIB on overall design, quality of workmanship, and use of materials.

Raymond’s scope of work on the The Marriot Marquis included metal stud framing, drywall, plaster, and fireproofing. The new ballroom was part of a $182 million renovation and increased the hotel’s meeting and event space to 280,000 square feet. As one of the largest ballrooms on the West Coast, it includes a grand foyer reaching up to 25,000 square feet, 72 meeting rooms, and capability to accommodate up to 3,700 guests.

The Southern California Great Wolf Lodge, which is California’s first and only indoor water park/resort, boasts a 603-suite hotel with a 105,000 square foot water park. Raymond completed the exterior stud framing and EIFS on the approximately $250 million development.

Chapman University’s Musco Center for the Arts is an 88,000 square foot performing arts center that features a multi-purpose proscenium-style theater hall with 1,044 seats, rehearsal space, associated performer space, offices, and a multilevel lobby. The Musco Center was constructed on a highly visible, 125,000 square foot site formerly occupied by an apartment building and strip mall. Raymond’s involvement with the planning on the project included preconstruction and construction engineering support for all involved disciplines. Raymond also completed the core and shell exterior and interior metal stud framing, sheathing, and drywall finishes.
