PROJECT
STORY

Nordstrom at University Towne Centre is two stories and totals over 150,000 square feet. It was designed to be a collection of boutique stores, rather than the standard design of separate departments within one store. The ceiling is made up of drywall “clouds” – suspended by Armstrong ceiling grid – giving the illusion that they are floating high above the shoppers.

Wooden ceiling planks, made of Random Match, Rift-Cut, European White Oak, and finished with a satin sheen, are suspended similar to the drywall “clouds,” using the Armstrong grid system.  This system, running down the entire length of the store (referred to as Main Street), is installed with zero tolerances keeping the lighting and other mechanical components perfectly arranged. The sleek strip lighting in the atrium is integrated perfectly within the drywall reveal system as designed by Callison, and the down lights residing in the “clouds” were perfectly aligned from one end of the building to the other. All of these components, combined with an abundance of natural light infused throughout the space, meld together to enhance the feel of the open concept design.
